Здање од Бога имамо, кућу нерукотворену, вечну на небесима, говори видовити апостол Павле (II Кор. 5, 1).
Сви наши трудови по Богу на земљи имају ту сврху, да заслужимо по сили нашој ту нерукотворену вечну кућу на небу. Неки цар Индијски Гундафор намисли зидати себи предиван двор, каквога нема на земљи. Када његов изасланик Аван тражаше мајстора вештога да сазида цару такав двор, срете по Промислу Божјем, апостола Тому, који му рече, да је он мајстор, и да нико цару не може саградити оно што жели осим њега.
Прими, дакле, Тома много злата од цара на зидање тога двора. Но чим изађе од цара, он све злато раздаде сиромасима. После две године посла цар слуге да питају Тому, да ли је двор готов. Јер двор требаше да се зида негде далеко од престонице. Одговори Тома: све је готово осим крова. И потражи још новаца од цара, и цар му даде. А Тома опет раздаде све сиромасима па хођаше по царевини својим послом, т.ј. проповедаше Јеванђеље. Сазнаде цар, да Тома није ни почео двор зидати, ухвати га и баци у тамницу.
Те ноћи умре брат царев, и цар паде у велику жалост. Ангел узе душу умрлога и проведе је по Рају, и показа му један предиван двор, какав ни ум људски не може замислити. Пожели душа умрлога да уђе у тај двор, али му ангел рече, да не може, јер је то двор његовог брата што му сазида апостол Тома милостињом његовом. И врати ангел душу опет у тело. Када брат дође себи рече цару: „закуни ми се да ћеш дати што ти иштем." И цар се закле.
Тада брат рече: „дај ми двор твој који имаш на небесима". Зачуди се цар, и посумња да може бити двор на небесима. Но када му брат све потанко описа, поверова цар, и одмах изведе Тому из тамнице, и кад чу из уста апостолових речи спасења и живота вечног, крсти се цар и брат његов. И потруди се цар новим милосрдним делима, те и он сазида за себе двор предиван на небесима.

The king found out, that Toma didn't even start building a palace, caught him and threw him in the dungeon. That night the king's brother died, and the king fell into great sorrow. Angel took the soul of a dead man and spent it in Heaven, and showed him a beautiful palace, that even the mind of a human could not imagine. The soul of the dead wanted to enter that palace, but the angel told him, that he could not, because that is his brother's palace built for him by the apostle Toma with his charity. And bring angel soul back to the body again. When the brother came to himself he said to the king, ′′ swear to me that you will give anything to you." And the king swore. Then the brother said, ′′ Give me your palace that you have in heaven ". The king is amazed, and he doubts that there can be a palace in heaven. But when his brother described everything to him, the king believed, and immediately took Tom out of the dungeon, and when he heard from the mouth of the apostle's words of salvation and eternal life, the king and his brother was baptized. And the king tried with new merciful deeds, and he built for himself a wonderful palace in heaven.
